Releasing Control
Submitted by Neo on Fri, 02/23/2007 - 14:31.I wonder if Americans will ever use self-driving cars very much? Most people, and Americans in particular, like to be in control of pretty much everything, their life, their job, and all the aspects of that. I wonder if we will ever be able to release control and let a robot chauffeur us?
Almost everyone knows someone who is a real backseat driver, always nagging and annoying the driver. What are they going to do when the car is driving itself and can't respond to the suggestions? Critique the car's driving, and enjoy it, knowing the car can't respond? Or just stop?
Implications of New Batteries for Powering Robots
Submitted by Neo on Tue, 02/20/2007 - 13:49.Even though the article released yesterday by Nanotechnology discuss the recent breakthrough in batteries talked primarily about their applications to alternative energy sources, the effects of the batteries on robots was immediately apparent. With batteries that are not only smaller and more compact than current ones, but are also 40x more efficient. This increase in efficiency would naturally greatly increase the applicability and usefulness of many different types of robots.
